Cam Control Switched

Cam Control Switched

Cam Control Switched is used where there is a variable cam control system that only relies on being switched on or off. This is not to be used for continuously variable cam control systems. Examples of different types of common switched systems are Honda VTEC (B-series engines), Nissan N-VCT (RB25DET), and Toyota VVT (4AG 20 Valve engines).

Options

Intake or Shared Output

Only select when controlling one Intake Cam Solenoid, or one Shared (Intake and Exhaust) Solenoid.

Exhaust

Only select when controlling one Exhaust Cam Solenoid.

Intake and Exhaust

Only select when controlling one Intake Cam Solenoid AND one Exhaust Cam Solenoid.

Two Intake Outputs

Only select when controlling one Intake Cam Solenoid with two outputs (sometimes required if one DPO is not capable of switching enough current).

Two Exhaust Outputs

Only select when controlling one Exhaust Cam Solenoid with two outputs (sometimes required if one DPO is not capable of switching enough current).

Two Intake and Two Exhaust Outputs

Only select when controlling one Intake Cam Solenoid with two outputs, AND one Exhaust Cam Solenoid with two outputs (sometimes required if one DPO is not capable of switching enough current).

Connections

Output

Select an available output wire, typically a DPO (Digital Pulsed Output) that will be wired to your Cam Control Solenoid(s).

Active State

Controls the whether the output to the solenoid is normal or inverted. Low will ground the output wire when the output is set to be On. Setting to High will invert this signal, with the output wire being grounded when the output is set to be Off, and not grounded when it is set to be On. (Default = Low)

Preconditions Tab

Min Vehicle Speed

Only available when a Vehicle Speed Sensor has been configured. The Cam Control can only enable when the vehicle speed is above this value. This is used for some engine configurations where cam control should not enable when the vehicle is stationary and being free-revved. (Default = 10km/h)

Min TPS

The Cam Control Switched function will only activate when the TPS is above this value.

Min Coolant Temp

The Cam Control Switched function will only activate above this Coolant Temperature value. This is used for some engine configurations where cam control should not enable when the engine is not at operating temperature.

Intake Operating Conditions

Off RPM Condition

Some types of switched cam control systems, such as those that switch cam profiles, simply require an On Condition eg. Honda VTEC engines.

Other types of switched cam control systems, such as types that advance the timing of an intake camshaft, operate in an RPM band requiring both an On and an Off setting. eg. Nissan N-VCT for the RB25DET, and the Toyota VVT on the 4AGE 20 Valve engines. Enabling the Off RPM Condition allows for these types of cam control system to be disabled above an RPM amount. (Default = Disabled)

Min Load

The amount of Load to be used for the Min Load On RPM and the Min Load Off RPM. All load less than this value will directly use this RPM amount.

Max Load

The amount of Load to be used for the Max Load On RPM and the Max Load Off RPM. All load greater than this value will directly use this RPM amount.

Min Load Off RPM

Only active when the Off RPM Condition has been enabled. This is the RPM above which the Intake Cam Control Switched output will be Disabled when the load is less than the Min Load. When the load is between the Min Load Off and the Max Load Off the RPM value will be interpolated between the Min Load Off RPM and the Max Load Off RPM.

Max Load Off RPM

Only active when the Off RPM Condition has been enabled. This is the RPM above which the Intake Cam Control Switched output will be Disabled when the load is greater than the Max Load. When the load is between the Min Load Off and the Max Load Off the RPM value will be interpolated between the Min Load Off RPM and the Max Load Off RPM.

Min Load On RPM

This is the RPM above which the Intake Cam Control Switched output will be Enabled when the load is less than the Min Load. When the load is between the Min Load On and the Max Load On the RPM value will be interpolated between the Min Load On RPM and the Max Load On RPM.

Max Load On RPM

This is the RPM above which the Intake Cam Control Switched output will be Enabled when the load is greater than the Max Load. When the load is between the Min Load On and the Max Load On the RPM value will be interpolated between the Min Load On RPM and the Max Load On RPM.
