Coolant Pressure Sensor

Coolant Pressure Sensor

A Coolant Pressure Sensor can be used with your ECU for datalogging and for Engine Protection purposes. A Coolant Pressure Sensor is a powered sensor that typically has three wires; a 5V+ power wire, a signal wire to the ECU, and a Signal Ground.

This sensor is generally installed into a header tank or radiator, and monitors the pressure of the coolant inside the cooling system.

Early detection of head gasket integrity issues can be achieved by monitoring Coolant Pressure. Excess Coolant Pressure can be linked to combustion gasses escaping past the head gasket seal and entering the engines cooling system. Detection of cooling system issues can also be detected by a lack of coolant pressure. This could be caused by a faulty radiator cap, leaking cooling system or faulty cooling lines.

Sensor configuration

On this node, the Coolant Pressure sensor calibration can be loaded or entered manually. If you have purchased a Coolant Pressure sensor from Haltech, calibrations can be loaded directly into the calibration table by using the 'Load from File' button. Calibrations can be saved to file by using the 'Save to File' button.

Display

This node sets the minimum and maximum values for the number and gauge displays.

Diagnostics

This node allows the enabling of high and low voltage DTCs as well as a Minimum and Maximum operating pressure DTC for the Coolant Pressure sensor.

A DTC severity can be set for the minimum and maximum voltage, which will trigger an Engine Protection level for the relevant setting.

For the Minimum Pressure diagnostic system there are some preconditions that must be met before the ECU treats the Coolant Pressure as low. This is to allow the system to warm up and build to a normal operating pressure before the pressure can be detected as low.
Minimum Pressure - The minimum operating pressure expected in the cooling system once the Minimum Time and Minimum Coolant Temperature values are met.
Minimum Running Time - The minimum Engine Running Time that must elapse before the Minimum Pressure safety can be triggered.
Minimum Coolant Temperature - The minimum Coolant Temperature that must be reached before the Minimum Pressure safety can be triggered.
DTC Severity - sets the severity level that is activated if the Minimum Pressure safety is triggered.

The Maximum Pressure diagnostic system can be triggered by setting the Maximum Pressure value.
DTC Severity - sets the severity level that is activated if the Maximum Pressure safety is triggered.

Wiring

This node allows you to assign the input for the Coolant Pressure sensor.
Coolant Pressure Sensors use an Analog Input. Any available AVI can be used.
It is recommended to disable the Pull Up.
