Haltech ECUs offer the advantage of expanded functionality through the use of CAN‑based devices, allowing additional inputs and outputs beyond those available on the ECU itself. These devices include the Nexus PD16, Nexus IO16, and Platinum IO12.
When wiring to these CAN expansion devices, it is important for the installer to be aware that certain functions require a direct connection to the ECU. These functions are critical to engine operation and cannot rely on CAN bus speed or tolerate a loss of CAN communication.
The functions listed below are considered engine‑critical and must be wired directly to the Haltech ECU. The NSP software does not allow CAN I/O assignments for these functions.
- Manifold pressure sensor
- Throttle position sensor
- Mass air flow sensor 1 and 2
- Drive By Wire (DBW) throttle – includes motor control, throttle position and pedal position sensors
- Electronic wastegate – includes motor control and wastegate position sensor
- Wastegate pressure sensor (Boost control)
- Boost pressure sensor (Boost control)
- Boost pressure pre-intercooler sensor (Boost control)
- Flat shift
- Oil metering pump
