Fuel Pump

Fuel Pump

The Fuel Pump function is used where the ECU will be controlling an electric Fuel Pump. ECU control is preferred for safety reasons to ensure that the fuel pump is turned off in case of an accident.

The Fuel Pump function incorporates the main fuel pump and optional auxiliary fuel pump functionality for any additional pumps that need to be controlled.

Wiring Tab

Options

Primary Pump Mode

Digital - Switched

Select when the Fuel Pump is a simply On/Off style pump.

Digital - Duty Cycle

Select when the fuel pump is a variable duty pump.

Aux Fuel Pump 1-3 Mode

To enable one or more Auxiliary Fuel Pumps, the box next to Fuel Pump # Mode must be ticked.

Digital - Switched

Select when the Fuel Pump is a simply On/Off style pump.

Digital - Duty Cycle

Select when the fuel pump is a variable duty pump.

Connections

Fuel Pump Relay Output

Select an appropriate Output to use for the Fuel Pump Relay Output. A relay must be used to supply power to the pump. The pump should not be directly wired to the Elite ECU. (Default = DPO-5)

Active State

All DPOs switch to ground when they are active. Changing the Active State simply changes whether the output is normally On or it is normally Off. It does not change the output from being a ground to being a 12V+ supply.

Note: When a DPO is being used as the output, it should be wired to a trigger pin of the relay and a switched 12V+ should be used for the other trigger pin of the relay.

Aux Fuel Pump Relay Output

Select an appropriate Output to use for the Fuel Pump Relay Output. A relay must be used to supply power to the pump. The pump should not be directly wired to the Elite ECU.

Fuel Pump Tab

Prime Time

The amount of time (in ms) that the Fuel Pump will be on before turning off if no engine RPM is detected.

PWM Signal Frequency

The frequency that is used for the PWM signal.

Aux Fuel Pump Tab

Running two fuels pumps continuously, or a single very large flow-rate pump means excessive noise and heating of the fuel. A street vehicle with very high potential output will not need a large fuel supply at all times. The second pump would only be activated when load demands require that the extra flow be available.

The extra pump must be connected in parallel with the primary fuel pump. A check valve is necessary to prevent fuel from being forced in the wrong direction. Connect the power to the pump via a relay. Either the positive or negative side may be switched through the relay.

Note: Auxiliary fuel pumps cannot be driven directly by the ECU. The ECU output can be used to trigger a relay to power the pump.

Trigger Type

Load & RPM

Uses both engine load and RPM preconditions to activate the auxiliary pump.

Estimated Fuel Flow

Uses the estimated fuel flow amount to activate the auxiliary pump.

Estimated Fuel Flow

The flow threshold at which the auxiliary fuel pump is enabled (available only when Estimated Flow Rate trigger type is selected).

RPM Threshold

The RPM at which the pump will switch on.

Load Threshold

The load at which the pump will switch on.

Time Hysteresis

The minimum time between successive on or off transitions.

PWM Signal Frequency

The frequency that the PWM signal is run. This is only available if the fuel pump is in Digital Duty Cycle mode
