Manifold Pressure Sensor

Manifold Pressure Sensor

A Manifold Pressure Sensor, commonly referred to as a MAP Sensor, is used to measure vacuum or boost in the inlet manifold, and is often used as the primary load input to the Elite ECU. A MAP Sensor is a powered sensor that typically has three wires; a 5V+ power wire, a signal wire to the Elite ECU, and a Signal Ground.

Wiring Tab

Options

Input Type

Select whether the internal Elite MAP Sensor is to be used, or an external MAP Sensor is to be wired to your Elite ECU. (Default = On-board Pressure Sensor)

Analogue Voltage

Selected when an external MAP Sensor is to be wired to the Elite ECU.

On-board Pressure Sensor

Selected when the internal 3.0 Bar MAP Sensor is to be used.

Connections

Manifold Pressure Input

Select an appropriate input to use for the Manifold Pressure Sensor. When an external sensor is to be used, an appropriate AVI (Analogue Voltage Input) should be used. (Default = AVI-9)

Connection Type

AVI

An AVI (Analogue Voltage Input) is suggested.

Pull up

Enables a 1k pull up resistor to 5V.

Typically the pull up should be enabled with any two-wire temperature sensor, and disabled for sensors with their own voltage supply. If the sensor is being shared with another ECU, such as with a piggyback installation with an OEM ECU, then the other ECU will generally include a necessary pull up and this setting should be set to Disabled.

SPI

An SPI (Synchronised Pulsed Input) can be used where there are no available AVIs.

Sensor Type

Set to Hall Effect for all analogue inputs

Pull up

Enables a weak 10k pull up resistor to 5V.

Display Tab

Warning Maximum

Sets the pressure such that if it goes above this, any gauge displaying the Manifold Pressure will begin flashing red.

Display Minimum

Sets the minimum pressure that the Manifold Pressure gauge can display. This does not affect the reading of the sensor, only what can be displayed.

Display Maximum

Sets the maximum pressure that the Manifold Pressure gauge can display. This does not affect the reading of the sensor, only what can be displayed.

Calibration Tab

Active only when the Input Type has been set to Analogue Voltage. This allows calibrations for Manifold Pressure Sensors to be loaded or saved. A number of calibrations come pre-installed with the ESP Software package. If your sensor is not listed, a custom calibration can be created with the data provided by the sensor manufacturer.

From the image below:

*1 – Selecting this yellow Open icon will allow the loading of a pre-configured calibration file.

*2 – Selecting this blue Disk icon will allow the saving of your custom calibration file.

Diagnostics Tab

The settings in this tab allow limits to be set for the detection of either fault conditions, or conditions that could be considered to cause engine damage related to the Manifold Pressure Sensor.

Raw Min

Only available when the Input Type has been set to Analogue Voltage. When enabled, this allows for the error code P0107 to be set when the voltage is below the set amount. This is used to detect a short or disconnection with the wiring. If the Engine Protection function is active a DTC Severity level can be selected for this condition if desired. (Default = Disabled)

Raw Max

Only available when the Input Type has been set to Analogue Voltage. When enabled, this allows for the error code P0108 to be set when the voltage is above the set amount. This is used to detect a short or disconnection with the wiring. If the Engine Protection function is active a DTC Severity level can be selected for this condition if desired. (Default = Disabled)

Operating Min

When enabled, this allows for the error code P0105 to be set when the Manifold Pressure falls below the set amount. If the Engine Protection function is active a DTC Severity level can be selected for this condition if desired. (Default = Disabled)

Operating Max

When enabled, this allows for the error code P0106 to be set when the Manifold Pressure exceeds the set amount. If the Engine Protection function is active a DTC Severity level can be selected for this condition if desired. (Default = Disabled)
