Turbo Speed Sensor 1 and 2

Turbo Speed Sensor 1 and 2

Turbo Speed sensors are used to monitor the speed of the turbo blades, and will signal an alert in the ESP software if the turbo blades spin above a predetermined RPM. This helps to reduce damage of the turbo and blades caused at high RPM.

Wiring Tab

Connections

Turbo Speed Sensor Input

Select an appropriate input to use for the turbo speed sensor. An SPI (Synchronised Pulsed Input) should be used.

Connection Type

Edge Select

Select the edge of the signal to be used. Typically this will be Falling unless instructed otherwise.

Sensor Type

Select if the sensor being used is a digital Hall Effect or a reluctor sensor.

Pull Up

Some Hall Effect sensors require a Pull Up if it is not incorporated in the wiring or the sensor itself. Enable as required.

Display Tab

Warning Maximum

When the turbo speed sonsor reads above this RPM, any turbo speed items on the ESP software will flash Red as a warning of high speed.

Calibration Tab

Number of Blades

Indicate in this box the number of blades on the compressor wheel. This assumes the sensor has a controller with a divide by eight (such as sold by Jacquet and TurboByGarret)

Diagnostics Tab

The settings in this tab allow limits to the set for the detection of either fault conditions, or conditions that could be considered to cause engine damage related to the turbo speed.

Raw Max

When enabled, this allows for the error code P2581 to be set when the voltage is above the set amount. This is used to detect a short or disconnection with the wiring. If the Engine Protection function is active a DTC Severity level can be selected for this condition if desired. (Default = Disabled)
