Haltech makes a wide range of ECUs for all types of different applications and with a huge range of features. We understand that sometimes working out which ECU is right for you can be a tricky process. To help you choose the correct ECU for your application, we’ve come up with this handy ECU Buyers Guide. The purpose of this guide is to help you choose a Haltech ECU that is most suitable for your needs.
Haltech ECUs are split into two major groups; Plug’n’Play and Universal.
Are you planning to use the factory harness? If the answer is yes, then start looking at the Plug’n’Play range. These include Pro Plugin ECUs that connect directly into your factory harness or Elite ECUs that connect to the factory harness via a special Plug’n’Play Adaptor.
To see whether your car is supported by a Haltech Plug’n’Play ECU select your make and model from the “Search By Car” menu on our website.
If you’re planning to do an engine swap, completely rewire your car or building a race car from ground up then head straight for the Universal ECU range. These ECUs are supported with a variety of wiring options, from universal wiring harnesses to engine-specific terminated harnesses. Like their name suggests, Universal ECUs will work with most of the popular engines.
Your engine requirements will dictate the features you’ll need from your ECU. The number of Inputs and Outputs required will quickly narrow down your selection. From there look at engine specific functionality requirements like Drive-By-Wire throttle, Flex Fuel, Knock Control, Long Term Learning or Data Logging. Adding these to your list will further narrow down your choices.
If you’re building a race car then you’ll no doubt be needing functions that will help you go faster, quicker and more reliably. Check the “Race Functions” section in the ECU Buyers Guide for competition functions like Boost Control, Nitrous Control, Flat Shift, Trans Brake, Torque Management and others.
These videos explain the differences between different series of ECUs and their features.
