The ZF 6HP26 6 Speed Automatic Transmission is supported by the Haltech Elite Pro Plug-in Ford Falcon I6 ECU through communication with the factory Transmission Control Module (TCM). The Adaptive Automatic Mode (Drive), Performance Automatic Mode (Sport) and Manual Mode are all retained with the installation of a Haltech Elite Pro Plug-in Ford Falcon I6 ECU. Using appropriate engine state information provided by the Haltech ECU, the TCM makes decisions regarding when and how to shift between gears. As necessary, the TCM will send torque reduction requests to the Haltech ECU. This is represented visually below:
Information about the tables referenced in the image above, along with tuning tips, can be found in the following functions:
Further information:
The Automatic Transmission function allows the Haltech ECU to receive and interpret engine torque limits and reduction requests from the TCM during operation.
The Automatic Transmission function also allows for shift point tuning by altering the information sent from the ECU to the TCM (see the Automatic Transmission function help linked above for more information).
The Torque Model Function is used to determine the generated engine torque in order to apply said torque reductions.
Both of these functions are necessary for the correct operation of the ZF transmission, as they work together to identify and apply torque reductions when required.
The torque limits must be obeyed, as excessive torque can cause damage to transmission components.
T he TCM also requires the engine torque figures to determine the internal line pressures, necessary for safe shifting
NOTE: The Torque Model Function is also required to ensure correct ABS Unit functionality - it is extremely important that the Torque Model Function is set up and tuned correctly. (see the Torque Model Function Help linked above for more information) |
For correct Transmission support, the following functions must be setup to operate via CAN:
Automatic Transmission - Ford Falcon 6 Speed
Transmission Torque Reduction Input
Transmission Torque Limit Input
Gear Detection Type
Selector Position Enable
Gearbox Oil Temperature Sensor

Torque Converter Control Function

The installation of a Haltech Pro Plug-in Ford Falcon ECU will not affect the long-term learning capabilities of the ZF Transmission. After the installation of the Haltech Elite Pro Plug-in ECU, the transmission will take time to learn and adapt to the way that the Haltech ECU responds to and communicates with the TCM. This can take a few hundred kilometres of driving in varied environments and styles.
The Haltech Elite Pro Plug-in Ford Falcon I6 ECU does not reflash the factory TCM. Reflashing of the factory TCM is not essential for the installation and function of a Haltech Elite Pro Plug-in Ford Falcon I6 ECU. The TCM may be reflashed if desired (using software offered by companies such as PCMTec), however this may cause the information sent from the TCM to the Haltech ECU (such as torque reduction requests) to be different from what is expected. Reflashing the TCM will affect the performance of the transmission.
Haltech takes no responsibility for incorrectly functioning transmissions under circumstances involving reflashed TCMs.
