Trans-Brake

The Trans-Brake function allows the ECU to control a trans-brake in an automatic transmission. The Trans-Brake allows the engine to develop full power without that power being transmitted into the drive-train. This is achieved by using a trans-brake solenoid, which locks the transmission into both first and reverse gears simultaneously, locking the output of the transmission. Trans-Brake Solenoids are often High current draw devices and should be wired to an appropriate HCO.

This function can be used in a drag racing situation, where the driver can use the trans-brake to assist in the staging process. Due to the significant delay in the time it takes for a vehicle to reach maximum launch power (where the trans-brake can then be released), there is a Bump and Creep function included within the Trans-Brake Settings. Bumping/Creeping allows for the vehicle to roll while still maintaining maximum launch power. Bumping or Creeping is achieved by pulsing the trans-brake solenoid on and off at a certain frequency and duty cycle - a ‘Bump’ is a predetermined time that the ECU will pulse the output to the solenoid, and a ‘Creep’ is a user-controlled time where the ECU will pulse the output to the solenoid. The driver can start this process on the first beam (the pre-stage) and then ‘bump’ or ‘creep’ the vehicle into the 2nd beam (full stage).

Settings

RPM Limiter Method - Select the cut method you wish to use for the Trans Brake RPM Limiter
None - Disables the RPM Limiter
Fuel - Fuel injection outputs will be cut to limit engine power.
Ignition - Ignition outputs will be cut to limit engine power. This is the more common method
RPM Limit - The RPM limit that is applied when the Trans-Brake function is enabled. Only available if RPM Limiter Method is set to Fuel or Ignition.
Delay - The Delay between releasing the trans-brake input and releasing the trans-brake output.
Bump/Creep Frequency - The output frequency when the Bump/Creep button is pressed
Bump Time - The Time which the Bump output is active when the Bump button is pressed.

Trans-Brake Enable Condition

This allows setting of the ECU condition to activate the Trans-Brake function.
Select - Select the ECU channel to be used.
Maths - A selection of Equal To, Not Equal To, Greater Than, Less Than, Greater Than Or Equal To, Less Than Or Equal To that is to be used.
Value - The value the maths must meet to enable the condition.
